<p>Finding organic foods these days is getting easier to do. My wife and I were going to Whole foods at first when this was new to us, but after a while we started figuring out the different locations that offered organic foods for less money. In our area Dominick&#8217;s and Target are a good place to get organic apples, celery, and peanut butter. For everything else we have been able to get it at Costco for less money than we would pay at the traditional stores. Costco is a great place to shop for organic frozen vegetables, organic half &amp; half, grass fed meats, and organic milk. Luckily as of recently we have a refrigerator in the garage, so we are now able to shop there and not worry about having enough room for the food. Eating organic foods has many benefits and you will just be glad to know that you are not getting all of those toxins in your body. We were pleasantly surprised by how much organic foods Costco has and are able to get almost everything we need from that one location.</p>
<p>If you haven&#8217;t yet watched Food Inc. than I would suggest it, because you need to know why eating commercial  foods is so bad for  your health. You can rent it at Blockbusters or watch it on Netflix. Start out with just a few things at first and gradually work your way up eating organic. Below is a list of  what is referred to as the &#8220;Dirty Dozen&#8221;, likely to have pesticide residues, listed from the worst first.</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Celery: </strong>Celery does not have any protective skin and for this reason it makes it almost impossible to wash off the chemicals(64 of them) that are used on the crops.</li>
<li><strong>Peaches:</strong> There are many different pesticides that are applied to these delicately skinned fruits in conventional orchards on a regular basis. Try eating tangerines or oranges as an alternative to peaches if you can&#8217;t find organic.</li>
<li><strong>Strawberries:</strong>In most cases strawberries are imported from countries that have less strict regulations for pesticide useage. Try eating pineapple or kiwi as an alternative if you can&#8217;t find organic.</li>
<li><strong>Apples: </strong>Similar to peaches, apples are generally grown with poisons for the purpose of killing pests, such as insects and fungi. When you wash an apple with water or scrub it this does not eliminate the the chemical residues completely, so with that said they are better to buy organic.</li>
<li><strong>Blueberries:</strong> Blueberries were added to the dirty dozen list in 2010 and are sometimes treated with over 50 pesticides making them the dirtiest berry on the market.</li>
<li><strong>Nectarines:</strong> Nectarines could have as many as 33 types of pesticides found on them and rank up the with the apple.</li>
<li><strong>Bell Peppers:</strong> The thin skin on peppers don&#8217;t offer much protection against pesticides and are often heavily sprayed with insecticides.</li>
<li><strong>Spinach:</strong> This was added to the list in 2010 as well and can often have over 40 pesticides found on it.</li>
<li><strong>Kale:</strong>Though you may have heard that kale is a hardy plant that does not suffer from pests and disease it has still been found to have high amounts of pestide residue.</li>
<li><strong>Cherries:</strong>Recent surveys have found that even locally grown cherries can have high amounts of pesticide residues and was reported to have 3 times as much as imported cherries.</li>
<li><strong>Potatoes: </strong>Also appearing on the dirty dozen list in 2010 is potatoes Americas favorite vegetable. This vegetable can have as many as 37 different pesticides.</li>
<li><strong>Grapes:</strong> Unlike cherries imported grapes have a higher rate of contamination than local grown and only the imported grapes made the dirty dozen list in 2010. Imported grapes can have as many as 34 different pesticides.</li>

<strong>Diet and Weight Loss Tips</strong>One of the fastest ways to lose weight and keep it off for good is to start eating healthier foods and start exercising. Whether you live an active lifestyle or not, more exercise will definitely help you to burn off those unwanted pounds and start working towards a thinner you. Face it, when you exercise you are burning calories, but if you are not eating right it will be hard to lose the weight. This may seem like basic stuff that you already know, but one of the main causes of obesity is lack of exercise and eating unhealthy foods.<br />
For me, I started losing weight the fastest when I totally cut bread out of my diet for one entire month. Instead of making a sandwich and bringing it to work, I would buy lunch meat like Cajun chicken or Bar Bq chicken breast that tasted good eating it by itself. I was surprised by how I would feel after lunch without eating bread. Along with the lunch meat I would have an apple, a few carrot sticks, a few all natural chips, and some water. I bought a medium sized container of mixed nuts and would have a handful around 10am and 3 pm. The weight started to come off fast and I was not by any means starving myself; In fact, I was now eating more than I was before I started trying to lose weight.<br />
Don&#8217;t be fooled there is no liquid diet weight loss, but using a juicer is a very good habit to get in to. When you eat a carrot your body will simulate about 1 percent of the beta carotene and by juicing the carrots your body will simulate 99 percent of the beta carotene. Don&#8217;t get me wrong, our bodies need the fiber that comes along with eating vegetables, but using a juicer can be very beneficial. The reason I am saying this is because maybe you are one that doesn&#8217;t eat too many vegetables and wish that you could eat more. You might be surprised how good your vegetables can taste in a smoothie that is apple or pear based.<br />
I know I have said it over and over again, but you will have a much more succesful time losing weight if you can stay away from any foods that have hydrogenated oils in them. It can be very challenging to find foods that are not made with soybean oils in them, but if you can, try to stay away from this as well. Drink more water and stay away from drinking sodas.<br />

<p><strong>Foods That Burn Fat</strong></p>
<p>Did you know that there are certain types of foods that can actually help you to burn fat when you eat them? Sounds kind of crazy I know, but I have found this to be true along my own personal journey to lose weight. Before I found out about this information myself I always just thought that in order to lose weight I just need to eat less, but that my friend, is not so. In fact it is just the opposite and if you start eating healthier foods more often during the day you will be more likely to succeed in your endeavors to shed those extra pounds of fat that have been keeping you from wearing those favorite jeans in your closet. Don&#8217;t be fooled by what the labels say on the products you buy in the grocery store. Just because it says &#8220;fat free&#8221; doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean that it is healthy and in fact, chances are pretty good that it isn&#8217;t. It is time to start learning what types of foods are good and bad, so you can make an educated decision about what you are about to eat.<br />

My wife has been using artificial sweeteners for years and has in the past 6 months started using stevia, which is 100% natural and is not a man made chemical. We both quit drinking the sweetened creamers, which are loaded with all types of bad stuff including hydrogenated soybean oil. It can be avoided, but is hard to cut out all way, so my suggestion is to read the labels and don&#8217;t buy it if  soy is one of the first things listed in the ingredients.</p>

<p>Foods that burn fat can be foods like eggs, grass fed beef, nuts, avocados, and berries to name only a few. I cannot stress enough that you need to start eating organic foods that are very low in xenoestrogens, which are chemicals that come from herbicides, pesticides, and other sources, such as cosmetics, water, and air pollution. These chemicals that we are exposed to come from food and can cause problems such as belly fat and even risk of cancer. Along with eating protein during a meal we also need to eat vegetables as well and there are certain types of vegetables that are known as Cruciferous, such as kale, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts etc. These types of vegetables we should eat often and have a unique type of phytonutrients that help fight against these chemicals and can help you on your quest to lose weight.</p>

<p><strong>Get  More Active</strong></p>
<p>Most people are aware that when we burn calories we are able to lose weight and the more active you are the more calories you will burn. Thing is that you can burn calories at your home just by getting some things done around the house, like vacuuming, dusting, mopping etc. Of course you will more likely burn more calories at a faster pace by going to the gym and walking on the tread mill for 30 minutes or by using the elliptical trainer. I can usually burn over 400 calories at the gym just by walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes  while watching T.V. Anyhow you will need to get more active one way or another to start burning more calories even if it is just walking around the neighborhood or working around your home. It is estimated that 3500 calories is equal to 1 pound of fat, so you will need to shave off about 500 calories per day for one pound a week which is a very attainable goal.</p>
<p><strong>Drink More Water </strong></p>
<p>I know this sounds stupid, but did you know that drinking more water can actually help you lose weight? That&#8217;s right, so go the the grocery store and buy yourself a case or two of bottled water and start drinking at least 6 bottles per day. For the first few weeks you will have to use the bathroom a little more often, but after that you will be going less and less. The majority of people do not drink enough water on a daily basis and as a result are dehydrated. It is very important to keep our bodies hydrated, because when we don&#8217;t our liver does not work like it should and we retain weight that could otherwise be loss by drinking more water. Get some bottled water and give it a try you will be surprised by the results if you are able to stick with it for more than 3 weeks.</p>

<p><strong>Keep Motivated</strong></p>
<p>Maybe you have tried losing weight in the past and just could not keep yourself motivated for long enough to see a difference. In fact one of the biggest hindrances for people tyring to lose weight is that they end up losing motivation. I know it has happened to me plenty of times when I first decided that I was going to try to shed a few pounds and start trying to live healthier.  One simply might lose motivation due to lack of information. This is common for people no matter what the goal is that they are trying to accomplish.</p>
<p>So if you are getting tired and not seeing any results right away than my advice to you would be to get  pen and a piece of paper out and write down as many benefits of weight loss as you can. Whether you are wanting  to look better or to be healthy, both of these benefits will surely be a motivating factor. There are so many benefits that you will not have a problem remembering a few of the most important to you. Keep these in mind every day when you wake up and maybe even use some sticky notes on your bathroom mirror to remind yourself each day.</p>
<p>Tell yourself out loud that you can do this at least once every day and while looking in the mirror  visualize yourself looking thin, attractive, and healthy. You may want to take a picture of yourself and pull it out when you are not feeling motivated and ask yourself, &#8220;do I want to look like this forever?&#8221; Use that picture for a before and after shot and keep working towards that after shot. Don&#8217;t lose hope and don&#8217;t set your goals too high to start with, a reasonable amount to start out with would be 1 to 2 pounds per week which would be anywhere from 500 &#8211; 1000 calories less per day.</p>
<p>Keep in mind that you can burn off 500 calories per day by excerising, so you will need to burn some calories each day by working out at the gym, riding your bike, roller blading etc. You don&#8217;t want to try to lose weight by not eating, in fact you need to eat at least 5 times per day and if you can make sure to eat a breakfast. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner with two snacks in between is best, but you will want to make sure that you are eating the right types of food that will help you to burn fat and eating heart healthy snacks.</p>
<p>For many people they have the information that they need to lose weight, but are missing the motivation. Motivation is key when you are trying to reach your goals, so write down some key motivating factors and meditate on them for a bit before you decide to make the commitment to shed those unwanted pounds. Knowing how you are going to keep yourself motivated will be vital to your success in reaching your goals.</p>

• Eat foods that are rich in fiber as they are helpful in absorbing the fat that is accumulated in the body. You can also follow a <a href="http://www.dietpolicy.com/diets-articles/high-protein-diet.htm">protein diet plan </a>for weight loss but with the advice from your dietician or nutritionist.<br />
• Pay attention to your food while eating. Do not distract yourself by reading, watching television, etc.<br />

Everyone including myself gets in these ruts where we are eating the same stuff over and over again, so that is why I am going to have at least one healthy recipe a week to add to your weekly meal plans. Here is one that I have made several times and it is a favorite in my house, the kids and my wife  know just what is cooking as soon as they come through the front door.HOMEMADE CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP</p>

<div>3 to 4 lbs. chicken<br />
5 cups water or chicken broth<br />
1 lb. baby carrots<br />
5 cloves garlic, minced<br />
3 celery stalks, finely sliced<br />
2 tbsp. fresh parsley, minced<br />
1 tsp. low sodium chicken soup base (or bouillon)<br />
1 large onion, chopped<br />
1 or 2 green onions, chopped (optional)<br />
2 bay leaves<br />
pinch ea oregano and thyme<br />
salt and pepper (to taste)<br />
additional seasonings of your choice (to taste)</div>

<div>Put all ingredients in Crockpot.</div>

<div>Cooks Note: Allow soup to come to a boil for 1 minute, then reduce heat until steaming hot but not boiling (barely simmering is OK). A boiled chicken soup is tasteless. If your Crockpot doesn&#8217;t allow a steaming hot soup without rapid boiling, do not use it for making soup.</div>

<div>Cook all day (6-8 hours) or until chicken is tender (not stringy).Thirty minutes before serving time, add homemade noodles; cook until noodles are tender. Taste and season soup with salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, to taste, before serving.</div>
<div>Homemade Noodles:</div>
<p> </p>
<div>1 cup sifted flour<br />
1/2 tsp. salt<br />
1 egg, beaten<br />
1-2 tbsp. water or milk</div>
<p> </p>
<div>Measure flour onto a work surface or into a large bowl. Make a well in the center of the flour and add egg, water and salt into the center. Mix to make a stiff paste.Turn dough out onto a floured work surface and knead until it forms a smooth ball.Cover and lest rest for 5 minutes.</div>
<p>Roll out to a 1/8-inch thickness. Turn and roll very thin. (A pasta machine may be used).</p>
<p>Allow to dry for 1 hour, then cut into lengthwise strips of 2 1/2-inches wide and stack. Then slice the other way to one-eighth to one-sixteenth inch width. Separate and allow to dry.</p>
<p>Add noodles to chicken soup and cook on high for 20 minutes.</p>
<p>Variation: To make pot-pie noodles, cut noodles into 1 1/2 to 2 inch squares.</p>

<p>We all know that the more calories that we can burn the quicker we are able to lose weight, but we still must keep in mind that if we are not eating healthy this won&#8217;t do much good. That is why you need to be choosing healthier foods that will give you energy and cause your body to burn fat. Foods like raw nuts, avacodos, cage free eggs, grass fed meats, and organic fruits and vegetables. Raws nut are one of the best type of foods that you can eat when you are working out as long as you don&#8217;t have too many.  The main thing is to stay away from the hydrogenated oils and commercial types of foods that contain chemicals that will end up clogging up your liver and once that happens it can be very hard to lose weight.</p>
<p>Oce you are eating well the next step is to start exercising more and if you do not exercise at all right now than it is time to start. Using the treadmill to lose weight is a very effective tool that can help you to shed those unwanted pounds very quickly. Walking at a pace of 3 miles per hour for 30 minutes will allow you to burn anywhere from 250-350 calories depending on how much you weigh and how old you are.</p>
<p>Considering that it would take 500 less calories per day to lose a pound per week than you would need to walk at least three times a week to start with and take in a few less calories, but the trick is to not skip any meals and to just eat a little less than usual because when you skip meals it slows down your metabolism. It is best to eat 6 time per day starting off as early as you can in the morning. The earlier you eat in the morning the better because this starts your metabolism for the day and that is what you want is to metabolize food quickly and turn it into muscle while burning off fat.</p>
<p>After just a few weeks you should be walking at least 5 days a week on the treadmill if not six with a one day break. At 5 days a week on the treadmill walking at a moderaate pace of 3 miles per hour for 30 minutes at a time you will be able to burn off at least 1500 calories. That means that for each day of the week you will need to eat 285 less calories than what you should be having and you will lose 1 pound a week.</p>

<p>Research has shown recently that walking  at a leisurely pace of about 2 miles per hour will burn more calories than a person walking at a pace of 3 to 4 miles per hour. Another benefit of walking at a slower pace is that it reduces the pressure on the knee joints by 25%.  when you walk at a slower pace you lose the efficiency of already being in motion and therefore have to work a little harder with each step. If you like the idea of walking at a slower pace than by all means go ahead and do so, but you will also need to find another exercise that will give you a go aerobic training such as biking or elliptical training workouts.</p>
<p>In order to lose one pound a week you will need to use up 3500 more calories than you eat for the week because a pound of fat is equal to about 3500 calories. Losing 1-2 pounds a week is a very reasonable goal and will require you to eat 500 calories less per day or you could split it in half and burn 250 calories by walking and 250 from eating less. Generally for a person that ways 175 pounds walking 1 mile at the rate of 2 miles per hour will burn around 100 calories and for a person that weighs in at 220 pounds 125 calories.</p>
<p>Walking to lose weight is a great thing and once you start doing it at least 3 times a week you should be able to add another day in here and there. If you are serious about getting healthy than you will not only need to eat healthier, but get moving and start exercising more often. Start out with walking 3 times a week and after 4 weeks add another day to each week until you are walking every day except 1 or 2 days per week. You will be pleasantly surprised by how much better you will feel and the weight that you will lose.</p>
